TO HELL WITH IT

Sometime’s it feels like every blogger has a slump every now and then, and a lot of the time it isn’t necessarily because we don’t know what to write, it’s everything that comes along with it. Having blogging as a hobby can sometimes feel like a losing battle. I love writing posts and even lately when I haven’t been blog focused at all I have constant ideas. The thing is, how on earth do you maintain a full-time job or education, your personal life, relationships, family time and posting frequently throughout the week, and not let your mental health suffer?

I think sometimes we need to just give ourselves A BREAK. Not necessarily a break from blogging or social media but a mental break. To stop being so hard on ourselves for not being able to put our all into absolutely everything. Writing a post is more than just typing up a few descriptive words on a makeup palette or where you have travelled or an outfit. You make notes, draft, write-up, check, edit, and do not even get me started on PHOTOS. It takes real work, not even to mention how it takes confidence to put your thought’s on the internet.

But I am calling bullshit on it all.

I WANT to write, but I don’t want to consistently schedule a truck load of tweets and take photo after photo after photo and I don’t want to feel like I have failed if there is 2 months between my posts or 2 days. I don’t want to feel like I have got to stick to “rules” on my own corner of the internet, you know?

I personally work full-time, have been growing my business as a makeup artist, working on myself, dieting and working out, keeping my relationship healthy, having therapy for my anxiety and trying to have a social life. For the whole of 2017 I have been doing all of this and trying to write a blog, so I just thought, to hell with it all.

I am no longer going to be hard on myself. I am going to post when I want and what I want. I love the blogging community but I just cannot keep up with what is “expected” for posts.

I have noticed, there are bloggers whose content I love and appreciate, but if they don’t have a perfect flat-lay, or they haven’t posted in weeks I still like the post. I like the fact that someone has a voice, I want to hear their opinion. No matter how often they post or tweet etc.

Yes, you need to advertise to grow. If you want to put your all into your blog and make it your career then yes you are going to put in the hours to get there. But if life get’s hectic or you’re mental health requires more attention, don’t give yourself a hard time.

You. Are. Still. Doing. Amazingly.

Work your ass off, focus on your goals, love yourself for who you are and most importantly, cut yourself some slack. Who else is going to?

Simple Everyday Work Makeup

Happy Tuesday lovelies! I hope your week is going well. I didn’t blog last week, I had a busy week and life has to be proritised sometimes! I’m currently working towards becoming a makeup artist so I think my blog is going to be more focused around make up looks and tips in the future but give me some feedback if there’s anything you would like to see!

This post is a simple every day look for work. I took my photos on a lunchtime because I wanted to give you a realistic look. I feel as if your makeup never looks as good as when it is first done, I wanted this to be a true post of what my makeup looks like all day, not just freshly put on first thing in the morning.

For my base I use NYX primer spray, I find a spray is the quickest way to prime when rushing in the morning and this saves me when I’ve woken up a little late (everyday). I used my new absolute favourite foundation, the Maybelline Fit Me Matte + Poreless foundation in 105. It’s a full coverage foundation without being too thick and unnatural for work. For concealer I use LA Girl Pro HD Concealer and set that all with NYX HD powder (which I HATE but more on that another time) under the eyes* and Rimmel Stay Matte in translucent for the rest of my face.

*The reason for my dark circles showing

For my brows I lightly fill them in with the Makeup Revolution Brow Pomade in Dark Brown, for work I don’t put too much effort into shaping and filling my brows I prefer to just fill them in, sort of, naturally.

Instead of going for full contour, I bronze up with the lightest shade from my Makeup Revolution All About Bronze Palette I put some of this on lightly to slightly define my features without looking too made up. I also apply a little to my crease just to warm my eyes up slightly.

I highlight using Makeup Revolution highlighter in Golden Lights which I’m finding is a slightly lighter dupe of the MAC beaming blush which I am OBSESSED with lately.

For a little blush I am trying W7 Candy Blush in Scandal/Explosion I’m trialling this at the moment as I’ve never tried W7 products before. It’s really pigmented and lovely when first applying but fades quite quickly which is disappointing.

For my eyelashes I use Maybelline Lash Sensational mascara.

For lips I use the Rimmel transparent lip liner and Jeffree Star Velour Liquid Lipstick in Checkmate or MAC Velvet Teddy depending on if I’m feeling nude or red.

To finish I use Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray.

As you can tell I tend to stick to high street products on a daily basis, purely because I love my high end products but can’t afford to repurchase them as often as my high street products.

The result I think is a simple look and although it can start to fade as the day wears on there’s enough for me to feel comfortable and made up without being natural.

What are your favourite products for daily wear?

Thanks for reading.

Kisses

So here’s the last one, I hope you’ve enjoyed them!

Makeup Revolution Review 1 – Lips

If you follow me on Twitter you will have seen the huge order I placed with Makeup Revolution which was farrr too big to fit a review into just 1 blog post, so I’ve separated it into three. Here is everything I got that is lips! Links are in the titles if you want to check them out yourself. There is a good variation in the colours because I needed a break from my ridiculous amount of red lips so there’s something for everyone! Continue reading “Makeup Revolution Review 1 – Lips”

Make-up Revolution Review 2 – Palettes

Ok now palettes are like my favourite thing and they was sooo cheap I couldn’t resist any of them. I originally had nine in my basket which I realised was far too ridiculous so I managed to get rid of three but I couldn’t get rid of any of these because I knew they’d be such good staples. Let me know which one is your favourite, I don’t think I can decide. Continue reading “Make-up Revolution Review 2 – Palettes”

What 2016 taught me..

If you would have told me a year ago what my life would be like now I never would have believed you. Common thing to say but honestly, I wouldn’t have even imagined.  In January 2016 I was preparing to have the summer of my life working in Magaluf, I was leaving my job which I started at 16 and everyone I knew. I left in April and leaving my family and friends honestly was the one of the worst heartbreaks imaginable. I met some amazing people and hang on this is where it gets mushy, I fell in love. Yep in Magaluf of all places. Two months later he left and I did the same 5 days later. I knew it was time for me. My workplace asked me back in a different position and there I was. Not long after he moved to be with me. I spent the rest of 2016 happier than I’ve ever been. I drifted from some friends in this process, purely because our lives had changed and our circles have too.  Continue reading “What 2016 taught me..”

Beauty Hacks!

We’ve all been in a situation where we are a bit stuck for money, and the most common time for it is January. While we might have wonderful new palettes and lipsticks that we have been kindly gifted at Christmas, beauty and make-up essentials are running low and payday feels like foreverrrrr away! So here are my little hacks for when I’m in a pinch.

Setting Spray

Now, setting spray’s can be quite expensive. I wanted to try it but was sceptical, so I had a look online to see if there was a way to make your own and……. there is! And it works just the same. Have a look at the video here… it is so easy. Basically just a bottle of water and some Glycerine in a spray bottle. As you can see from the photo, I made mine a little prettier with a sticky backed sheet of patterned paper. I kee Continue reading “Beauty Hacks!”

5 Favourite Eyeshadow Palettes!

If you’re anything like me and have a slightly worrying obsession with eyeshadows then get yourself a nice hot drink, get comfy and have a read of this!

Eyeshadow is my ultimate favourite part of makeup. Sometimes I wish I could take it off and do it again because I enjoy it so much (I’m aware how sad that sounds).
I have so many eyeshadows and palettes to the point I wonder if I’ll ever use all the colours, but it doesn’t stop me getting more.. woops.
I thought I’d share my top 5 favourites, from high end to cheap af ones.

1. Anastasia Beverley Hills – Modern Renaissance.abh-pic
I am obsesssssed with this palette. The colours are so so so beautiful and the mirror on it is a brilliant size.
I love the orange and red tones and it has a couple of pinky colours aswell. The brush isn’t as soft as I would expect for the price but it does blend the colours
really well.

2. Mac – 9 Colour Burgundy Palettemac-pic
The. Shimmer. Shades. Oh. My. God. I looove MAC’s sparkly eyeshadows and Day Gleam was my favourite until I found Star Violet and Honey Lust in this palette.
The matte shadows compliment them so well and I couldn’t imagine a better mix of colours for this palette.

3. Urban Decay – Naked 1nkd pic.jpg

This was the first high-end palette I ever brought. The first time I let that amount of money leave my pocket for makeup and I remember the pain.
Until I used it. I’ve had this palette for a year now and I’m still so in love with it. If you haven’t got a naked palette, my gosh, you need one!

4. Morphe 35T

I’d seen this palette online a few times and couldn’t wait to get it. Can you imagine my pure HEARTBREAK. When it came and about 6 of the colours was smashed.
Honestly. Ouch. I had a mare with trying to send it back and in the end I decided the sacrifice the colours I had lost, cleaned it up and used it.
So there are colours in this palette that unfortunately I haven’t used, however, the ones I have got are absolutely beautifulll. Such lovely, pigmented shades. There are so many options to match with this many colours and I have done some lovely looks with this through the Autumn/Christmas period.

Everyday Make-Up

So, I thought my first blog post should be something that included my make-up basics as I will probably mention them alot! This is the make-up I wear everyday to work.

I start off with the Primed & Ready gel primer from Collection. I like this primer as it gives a matte effect and helps control blemishes.

I would normally swear by the Wake Me Up foundation by Rimmel in the shade Ivory, but when I last went to pick my foundation up it was out of stock, lately I have been using the Match Perfection foundation. The Rimmel foundations are my absolute favourite and I think they have one to suit anyone.

For my eyebrows lately I have been using the Collection Eyebrow Kit in the shade blonde, even though I have dark hair, the colours are really dark! I apply the powder with my Spectrum A17 angled brush.

I use the Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer in shade 1 or for lighter coverage the Wake-Me-Up Concealer in Ivory.

I finish my base with a translucent power, usually Rimmel Stay-Matte.

To contour and highlight, I use the Anastasia Beverley Hills palette in light-medium. I apply this with my Sigma Large Angled Contour F40 Brush and a basic fan brush for highlight.

I use the Lash Accelerator Endless Mascara from Rimmel, although I do try a new mascara often!

To finish off, lipstick! Dependent on the look I’m going for my every day staples are either my Collection Velvet Kiss lip cream in Caramel 2 or my MAC Russian Red lipstick.
